REO the ultimate wave kite

The REO is designed purely for waves and surf board riders, this is a dedicated wave riders kite.

What is the criteria for a wave kite I hear you say…. Well, we and our riders think it needs to have fast handling, float down the line, good relaunch, megga de power and plenty of power to get you back up to the lineup. The REO is the result of more than a year’s development.

We wanted to create a kite that was versatile in all aspects of wave riding…so if you wanna park & surf or loop it down the line, hooked or unhooked, the REO is designed to deliver in all these circumstances.

REO - The Story

The Reo has been a blast to develop. It has involved all of here us here in the Ozone HQ, Hugh, Torrin, Matt and myself but also our close friends, Pagie, Armie and Dave Edwards.
Together we have chased waves all round the North Island of New Zealand, all in the name of “testing”. It was a labour of love. Love of the ocean, love of being out there and of course a love of the waves.

Between us we have a range of different styles and experience and this has helped define the Reo. Torrin is a force to be reckoned with in the waves, flat out pro rider that has no fear and pushes the limits strapped or unstrapped. Dave Edwards is a strapless monster no matter how big and gnarly the conditions, very impressive to watch. Pagie is a ripping surfer turned kiter and rides accordingly! Armie has been on the wave charge since the beginning, he is a fearless strong rider no matter what is thrown at him. Matt, Hugh and myself are what I would describe as “Having it” but with less experience than the others however we are still pushing ourselves hard.

The Reo is not my baby, it is a piece of all of us and I think that is why we all love it. We have come off the water so many times just buzzing and raving about the kite and our sessions. It has fuelled our passion for wave riding and helped us push our abilities to new levels.

So what is so good… Well, I would describe it as an extension of your body, this kite can be flown so many ways but it delivers outstanding performance no matter what your style. Hooked in it can float down the line effortlessly, it’s quick precise handling means you can put in the right spot and just ride the wave as hard as you can. If you slack line it, it still floats rather than falling out of the sky, it just drifts back and you have time to compensate and get the lines tight again.

If you like to move the kite a lot then it responds just perfectly, fast and direct. Unhooked it leaves you with nothing to do, the drift is perfect so all you got to do is concentrate on the next lip or section you are going to bosh.

I could go on but it’s better you read the reviews otherwise it is going to sound like a sales pitch and I would hate to sound like that. As with all Ozone products we like you to decide for yourself rather than believing us.

The Zephyr allows me to ride when I should be mowing the grass, but I need my fix. Call me crazy, but I love to learn new unhooked tricks on the Zephyr in light winds. It pulls like a boat, remains stable when you miss a pass not looping you off down the beach.

When you blow a trick and the kite ends up on the water, it still amazes me that it relaunches effortlessly even in sub 10 knot winds!
If you dial a trick on a 17m you’re away laughing once the wind picks up and you’re throwing down on your 10m C4.
Cruise around, run a muck… spray some paddle boarders, you know the saying…

Historically big kites didn’t loop, the Zephyr has got this sorted without the need for troublesome pulleys.

The Edge is the ultimate ride, it’s the Ferrari of the kite world. The reason I like to ride the Edge is directly related to my many years paragliding and sailing. Boosting with the Edge is amazing, it fulfills my need to be air born and see the world from another perspective. Sending it on the 9m in 25+ knots is awesome, it explodes off the water and gives me plenty of time and altitude to take it all in. The kite is stable and predictable in the air and super smooth which inspirers confidence to go bigger and bigger and pull off engaging kite loops.

Competition sailing has always interested me as it pushes the design and development envelope. Riding a proven World Championship winning design allows me to continue this interest hands on, knowing that I am riding a kite that is at the cutting edge of performance. The power and speed that this kite generates is out of this world! All you have to do is pull the bar in, edge hard and hang on, before you know it you are ripping at ultra high speeds up or down wind!

As the manager and owner of Ozone I am proud to see the Edge take both the male and female World Championship titles in the hands of Adam and Kari. Also to have a team that is so strong with the likes of Chip, Andrew, Adam and Kari proves the pedigree of the Edge.

C4… A new definition for all terrain Kiteboarding

Exploding onto the scene in 2010 with a bridled pulley less C style kite was something new for Ozone, and the C4 has certainly made its mark stoking freeriders and freestylers alike.

Our main goal for the new C4 was to refine the kite as a whole, offering a better feel for riders who enjoy C kites without compromising the ease and fun factor of the 2010 C4.

For 2011 we are introducing our new Variable Bridle Geometry system. Put simply, the 2011 C4 has two “feel” settings; one that’s similar to the 2010 C4, and another that has a more powered up and heavier feel perfect for freestylers. The system is simple, takes about 20 seconds to change and doesn’t involve adding or taking away any lines. The rider shifts the middle bridle lines up or down on pigtails to change the feel of the kite.

Combining C kite characteristics like fast intuitive handling and unhooked performance with massive depower and back line relaunch, the C4 is an outstanding all round kite for all levels of freeride and wave riding.

Ozone Catalyst, Accelerate your kiting

We like to think our designs are versatile; the Catalyst in my mind is the choice for all-round riding because of its versatility and performance. It can take a beginner safely from the first steps right through to ripping it up in all aspects of the sport. At the same time it can satisfy and impress seasoned riders of all levels.

I personally choose to ride the Catalyst because I know I can depend on it to deliver the performance I want and need to ride to the level I desire. It truly is a kite that can do it all no matter what riding I am doing.

I love to ride waves, the Catalyst is easy to ride even in those critical moments because the kite can float in the air as you cruise down the line or smash the lip. It allows you to concentrate on the wave and not have to worry about perfect kite placement to keep it flying.

When the wind picks up boosting big is always fun and exciting, the Catalyst gets me up there and brings me down softly which is great for my beaten and broken body! It can even handle unhooked riding if that is your thing!

However if it is just cruising with my friends then no matter how flat or choppy the water, I know it’s going to be a pleasure to ride because of it’s smooth forgiving nature and it’s performance both up and down wind.

It really is the bomb, it’s got smooth progressive handing, awesome de-power characteristics and has simple effective safety systems.

In short if you want a kite that delivers in all categories then the Catalyst is as much for you as it is for me.

Inflatable 2.5m kitesurf Trainer

Ozone set out to design a simple, affordable and robust inflatable depower trainer. The Uno is a unique design, with only one strut it is an ideal kitesurf trainer for schools, operating and functioning the same as a larger inflatable water kite. It is also perfect for any kiter to have as a fun addition to his/her quiver to get family and friends into kiting. The Uno is a lightweight package, at only 1.3 kg it is easy to travel with and keep in the car.

The Uno trainer is responsive, smooth and stable. It comes in one size (2.5m), with enough power to ensure beginners will be ready to progress to the next level. The Uno works with the standard Ozone 4 line kitesurf bar (recommended line lengths 15-25m), allowing an easy progression onto a larger Ozone water kite after learning the basics with the Uno.

The Uno is great for teaching because the student can learn how to use the safety systems and how to re-launch with ease, using the same bar system as on the larger Ozone water kites. Schools can now teach students in high winds in the water, without having to sacrifice functionality of an inflatable kite. It can also be used for first lessons on land.

CHARGER

The Charger is a true high performance all-terrain kite designed to offer the best possible experience in any discipline, whether hardcore kiteboarding, landboarding or snowkiting. FLYING CHARACTERISTICS

Great low-end power and large wind-range
The Charger has an amazing wind range. Its good low-end performance, combined with quick and easy turning, allows you to ride a smaller kite than previously in any given wind speed, without compromising the top end. The Chargers wind range will give you the confidence to ride in any condition, no matter how gusty the wind is.

Responsive and easy control
The Charger turns surprisingly quick and flies smoothly. This kite challenges you to do kite-loops and go big. It can be flown with slack or tight rear lines. Its flying and turning speed are not affected by the rear line tension, which makes it suitable for various riding styles.

Amazing lift and long float

The Charger has an incredible stability. Parked above your head it does not luff or collapse. The Auto-zenith feature helps to bring back the kite automatically to the zenith. When practising new tricks or getting washed by a wave simply let go of the bar and your kite will return to its zenith.
